Out of all the things I miss from Butlins past - chairlifts, dining room arrangements, tonnes of blazered redcoats, open window monorails, fountains, junior showplace, long corridors in the entertainment buildings that go past ballrooms/indoor bowling/arcades, and the theatres with knights, the ONE thing I miss most is the loss of the Barry Island Butlins indoor funfair.
Walking up those stairs and waiting for the doors to open... the multi-coloured strip lighting, lattice woodwork ceiling, the view out of the window from upstairs, the rides themselves, electric smells and the sounds of motors and the clacking of the Alice in Wonderland ride! The Clacton indoor funfair was similar, but it doesn't stand out anywhere near as much in my memory.
