littleangel..

sorry i wasn't on this site last year and haven't actually stayed at Haven in weymouth... but a friend and I are thinking about buying a caravan park as we both want to get back into that market having worked for Butlins for many years.... and we visited the site on a reconnaisence one day

Did you go? what was it like?

If I recall it was on the hillside sort of overlooking Weymouth with a big venue in the centre and the caravans around the outside. There must have been around 250 caravans or so.

Can you let me know if you enjoyed it, what the entertainment was like and was there plenty to do all the time?

would help us with our potential purchase.

Thanks.

We did go yes, the site and vans where lovely, but entertainment on site at night and during the day was pretty dreadful. For the kids they had trampolines, which you had to pay for among other things that you thought would be included were not. I for 1 wouldn't stay at a Haven site again, hence why we are going to Butlins this year.

this particular site wasn't on a hillside, that's another 1 they have in weymouth I think it was called Seaview or something like that.

Thanks for that little angel... must have been the seaview one we went to see.

We thought at the time that only one venue would restrict entertainment, but guess if that's all the site can hold... you make the best of it.

We could go to the other site "Seaview", but we just found things to do around Weymouth, it is such a beautiful area too.

We did have a lovely holiday, just a bit disappointed with the on site entertainment(mainly the evening entertainment, but maybe after going to Butlins, we tended to compare), but really we just used it as a base for our holiday, unlike when we go to Butlins we can stay on site for a few day's as there is plenty to do and go out for the odd day's the rest of the time.

We eventually stayed in a Silver Caravan after being offered an upgrade from 4 star, for just ?40 which was good.

sounds like a nice place as you say for a base to visit other areas around dorset.

i suppose the smaller the camp then they can't have too much in the way of entertainment, but surely something to try and keep the guests on centre would be good...

thanks for the info..

Weymouth Bay is one of Haven's smaller parks and is alot less lively than its other Parks!

unfortunately they wont pay any money for entertainment, and all the good acts wont work for peanuts.

Yep, youre right Graham(Capt)as Jan,Skippy,Mike and Dave mentioned we Redcoats did very long hours, but loved every minute of it.

From breakfast till Midnight some nights, as long as you were wearing that famous Redcoat you were on duty.

l remember when it was my turn to do the spiel at breakfast,we'd sit with the campers and when Radio Butlin sounded the pips that was the cue to climb up to the mike and sound the gong which would not only wake the campers up but also myself ,which would get lots of cheering and booing l'd then tell the campers what was happening during the day.
At night l'd spin for the champagne, once or twice my table won it,more cheering and booing but good humouredly.(l'd like to think)

lts amazing the duties we Redcoats did,(in one of my earlier threads l've detailed every duty we did).
Apart from my every day duties when there was a Revue,or show in the Gaiety,l would with the other Reds on theatre duty see the campers to their seats joke and chat with them, also do sing-a-longs with the other Reds, then before the show started l would go backstage ,take my Redcoat off and operate the stage lighting,

l remember in the peak season there would be 3 shows a night, for 1st sitting, then 2nd sitting, then for those who missed both, the Gaiety had seating for 2,000,now of course replaced by "REDS" and "CENTRE STAGE" at Skegness.
Then after 3 shows went on Ballroom duty, long days but wouldnt have missed it for the world.
As Roy(Redshed) says "There isnt such a thing as an ex Red"
l'd like to add "Once a Redcoat always a Redcoat"
