Been away from here for a couple of weeks been really busy but also after a few months of misery following the departure of the now very ex Mrs BIF, I have found love again  . The problem is she is soon returning to her home town of Cork in Ireland. We both want to make a go of it but just wondered what you all think of long distance relationships. Do they work? Ireland's not too far and fairly cheap to get too but im worried distance may just be too much! Anyway your thoughts will be very much appreciated! :D

Good for you BIF, very pleased to hear your good news.
Just remember, nothing ventured ... nothing gained.
The internet is a wonderful thing, you can keep in touch via email and msn as well as looking forward to meeting up in person whenever possible.
Excellent news!

go for it barryisland fan. long distance relationships can work. i am in a long distance relationship myself, my boyfriend is back at skegness working another season. we have been having our long distance relationship for nearly 3 years now, will be 3 years this june. we txted everyday, my phone bills are rather big as i have to phone his mobile, we also chat online using messenger and i go see him when ever i can. i also live in ireland and he lives in england. air fares are reasonable enough. it cost me 25cent to text him and think it costs him 20pence to reply.
just go for it, ireland is lovely place to visit.

I think go for it too. My husband and I had a long distance relationship for three years before we married, although the distance wasn't as big as yours. As others have already said, with mobile phones and MSN, it's easier to stay in touch.

I hope it works out :D

Definitely worth a try if you like someone that much!

The son of a lady i work with (in UK) is seeing a girl from Portugal who he met over the internet. They use messenger, webcams etc to keep in touch and see each other about 3 times a year. Seems to work ok for them!

No experience of it myself but go for it....as Jules says... nothing ventured nothing gained!

Thanks for all the positive replies. Yeah we are going to see how it all pans out once shes back in Cork. Im not too far from Bristol airport and air fair to Ireland is pretty cheap so hopefully it'll work out!

Joker and GBB way ahead of you on that one LOL :D
