After many trips to Skegness and Minehead I'm off to Bognor friday for a 3 night break. I've heard good and bad things about the camp so I'm off to see for myself.
Anyone got any picture requests?
and anyone else going tomorrow?

Hi clactonman,
I'd very much appreciate an account of your visit when you get back, as I'm off to Bognor on 18th Nov. - my first time at any Butlins, ever - and I'd like to have an idea of the good and bad points before I go.
If you don't mind me asking (and tell me to get knotted if you do :-) !) what sort of accomodation are you staying in. I'm staying in a Silver half-board room. I wanted to get a Gold room, but as a single guest, they won't let you book anything better than Silver, even if you offer (as I did) to pay as if there were two guests - boo! - does anyone know why that is? The Customer services dude couldn't tell me why...

Hi Steve,
18th November is an Adults weekend and me and the lads will all be there for a right good time. If you love a laugh and a shed load of drink you will be in for a treat.
As for the Accomodation when you book just give them 2 names and its no problem if you are willing to pay for 2 guests of course.
Also on these weekends they sell out so they like to maximise the units available. Why are you going on your own Steve??
Difficult I know but try not to confuse good and bad points (All perfectly valid im sure) from family breaks as the adult weekenders are an altogether different animal. From Friday lunch to monday morning its a blast.
And have a great time Clactonman. Your report will be interesting to read.
Cheers
Sharky

Well, I love both, as it goes, so that's what I'm hoping for. I'm also just hoping to have an experience I've not had before - I'm always up for that.
As for the Accomodation when you book just give them 2 names and its no problem if you are willing to pay for 2 guests of course.
Doh! Now why I didn't think about that, I'll never know. I booked it on the website, and I just filled in the forms like a robot. Oh well...the Customer Services bloke reckoned that there might be a very slim chance of cancellations on the day, so I'll see what I can get when I turn up.
Also on these weekends they sell out so they like to maximise the units available. Why are you going on your own Steve??
No-one to go with. :-( ... I got interested in holiday camps, as you may have read in my first post on this forum, when I saw that "Wakey Wakey Campers" show - see http://www.butlinsmemories.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=48095#48095 . When I asked around my friends, though, no-one I knew was interested in coming along. Funnily enough, they all had quite strong opinions about Butlins, but no-one had actually *been*, so I thought "Sod the lot of 'em, I'll go anyway, let's see what it's really like". I try to look at experiences on their individual merits, and do a wide range of stuff. If I fancy a doner kebab and a beer, only a doner and a beer will do. If I fancy pan-fried tranche de foie gras, and a glass of '83 Chateau d'Yquem, that's what I'll have. Almost everything has stuff to enjoy about it if you approach it in the right frame of mind.
Anyhow, I don't mind going places on my own when the need arises - I've done loads of business travel, so I'm used to it - and you can usually find someone to chat to.
Difficult I know but try not to confuse good and bad points (All perfectly valid im sure) from family breaks as the adult weekenders are an altogether different animal. From Friday lunch to monday morning its a blast.
Advice noted, mate.

I went to Minehaead on my own this year and last, and I had a great time. It's great to be independent- you'll meet other fun people there, but you can go off and do exactly what you want to do, when you want to do it!

Steve,
That is the funniest thing I have *ever* read on this site. I went to the launch of the new motel recentely, and I'd never seen so much champagne!
Let's hope it's not all been consumed by the time you arrive, but don't fret; there's always a steady supply of Blue Nun at Butlinland!
Have a good one,

Dear Mr/Ms Grill (or may I call you Golden?),
Well, you know I'm certainly not expecting faffy food and poncy wines. I'm very glad you found my post funny, but I did also have a serious point, really, about enjoyment of a given thing being dependent on your expectations.
Let's hope it's not all been consumed by the time you arrive, but don't fret; there's always a steady supply of Blue Nun at Butlinland!.
Blue Nun! Well, I don't think I'll be sinking any of that. Always had to struggle down a glass when I went to my nan's for sunday lunch, so as not to offend her - glurk! But tell me, how are Butlin's on white Burgundies, say 2000-2001? :-) As Vic Reeves used to say "Only jokin'...or am I?".

I saw an old newpaper ad from the 70's for Berni Inns the other day: Prawn Cocktail, Rump Steak and a piece of Black Forest Gateau, ?1.99! I used to quite like Berni's and their unpretentious cheesiness, but then they morphed into "Berni Classic" which meant "We pretend to be a proper restaurant, but you know what? We're really a crappy caff with restaurant prices! Hurrah for our shareholders!" They didn't last, and I'm not surprised. I bet I would have liked your namesake, though. There's something *about* a tomato rosette...:-)

Thanks for the tip. I shall check it out.

Steve,
Please, call me Golden. Everybody does!
I too was a fan of the Berni Inn. I remember going to a particular "Inn" as a treat when I was a kid. I seem to remember tucking into a chicken kiev and a floater coffee the night Freddy Laker went bust!
Bognor town centre used to have a fabulous branch of Martin the Newsagent in the early 80s. It was much bigger than the norm with a record and toy department. I loved the way they used to display easter eggs next to the the Lego. There was always a wire basket by the till filled with reduced seven inch singles. At one point it became Sperrings and if I remember rightly, Lavells for Leisure.
You'll also see a dreadful branch of Morrisons nearby. It's not a patch on what it was in the late 70s; a Presto Food Market. It then became a rather nice Safeway and it's rumoured that Hannah Gordon could be seen there, skipping round the Angel Delight aisle to the "everything you want from a store and a little bit more!" jingle.
Anyway if you dont enjoy Butlin's you'll love Sussex!
Strangely I'm off to the 80's madness weekend with several mates on the 18th November.
:D
Well looks like a few BM members for this weekender...Roll up roll up any more fancy it.
Also what are the vip booths like in the sports bar?? I have read about them in the Brochure that Butlins produce exclusive for the adult weekenders. Sound great for watching the footie.
Cheers
