Haven Funstars at our Panto!

When i went to see 'Mother Goose' (Our Local Panto) - There was 2 Funstar there advertising 'Haven Holidays' with Rory the Tiger and Bradley Bear. The sponsorship was quite heavily laid on, with large advertising Posters and the funstars were actually Funstars (We just thought Bourne would have sent a few uniforms to the theatre, as the Funstars were there everyday and there was 2 showings a day!)

Why doesn't Butlins do anything like this because it was great publicity for Haven British Holidays (the new name for Haven)?

i think butlins gets enough people going to there resorts as it is haven though dont really appeal to familys as they dont have fairs and they only have arcades.

I think you'll find Haven is alot more popular than Butlins!

I used to get dragged to the Haven Blue Dolphin Holiday Park most years by my parents!

Can't remember that much about it other than cold outdoor pools, 5 a side football on a cold and windy field and lots of games of scrabble in the chalet...

Always seemed to rain when we went!

Is the blue dolphin still there near Scarborough?

If someone can find actual booking figures, it would be grand. Its hard to compare Butlins to Haven though (Im not actually sure what one really is more popular), Haven has more parks but Butlins camps are larger so it may just seem that way.

I know alot more people who have been to Haven! - Though you can't actually say 'Oh I must be right then'.
But i have a strong feeling Haven is more popular, 34 parks can hold upto 2000+ ?!?

I'm off to Haven Craig Tara in may for a few days.
The only reason I'm going is because it's the old Butlins.I'm not expecting it to be anywhere near as good as Butlins but I've been wanting to see the place where I spent a lot of time when I was a kid & then with my own kids.

Bourne Leisure are more into caravan sales than holidays.

At Blue Dolphin, P.V. and Reighton Sands nearly 33% of the accomodation is privately owned and many sub-let.

Also Butlins are cheaper for groups of 2 or 3 while Haven are cheaper for larger groups.

Obviously they can't sell all of the Caravans! Or Holidays wouldn't be available anymore!

I say go for it, it's something I'd always wanted to from the age of about 3! Currently working as a Bluecoat / Techie for Pontins, and awaiting results of my Butlins interview hehe..

i used to go on haven holidays, that was till i went to butlins.
bow i would never go on a haven holiday, as i find butlins is far better and lots more to do
and its far cheaper. The kids just love it

I've just read somewhere that the fastest growing holiday types are 'All Inclusive', so if this trend continues Butlins will return towards its haydays.

Maybe so, Market trends change alot, The dip that nearly killed Butlins 20 years ago can just as easy turn into a boom bring it back to life, Butlins isnt strugling now, and when Butlins finds itself on one of these booms, Butlins can find it self swamped with happy campers and maybe even enter its true golden age, we may of not even see nothing yet!

At the moment Haven seems to be more cared for by Rank, then Bourne then good old Butlins, once Butlins was the only word assoicated with holiday camps, hopefully it will change.

well the booking figures must be high because i remember going to a camp called dennis,s which was next door to the blue dolphin many years ago. It is now part of the blue dolphin cannot remember when they bought the site .Also the same aplies to primrose valley they keep on extending further and further on to our beloved butlins filey site. So i would say they wouldn,t extened if the market wasn,t there.

are you richard from greenacres?,cause there was a funstar there called richard and he was a really good entertainer,he was one of the reasons of why i had a good holiday and didnt want to leave,so if its you thanks for making it good

ahh blue dolplphin, happy memories of working there in 1997, there was plenty to do that year as us "havenmates" (as we used to be) made damn sure there was always something on!
