Keep the memories alive! ! !
Recently former Pontin's Dolphin Bluecoat and Barman Howard Coakley met up with some former Pontin's employees. The meeting was a huge success and it was there they came up with a great idea. I'll let Howard tell you all about it:
During our meeting it became obvious that there are literally thousands of
people out there who have information about the various Pontins sites,
people and events; and that there are no records of any of this history. As
people forget, die, emigrate, or become detached from their past for other
reasons, we will lose that legacy. So, we would like to collect as much
information on ALL of the pontins sites, - in addition to the pontins empire
as a whole.
I have therefore made a webpage which can be used by anyone who has any
interesting facts or anecdotes about any of the Pontins empire. I am sure we
would all hugely enjoy reading this compilation, - but it has to start
somewhere! Therefore, please go to the site, register your name and email
address and tell us anything you possibly can! Relate your stories,
knowledge of entertainers, cabaret artists and employees. Tell us how the
site/s has changed, what made it good or bad, what the food was like, which
events you enjoyed etc, etc.
If you would like to record your story or tape an with interview someone who
has a pontins background, I will be happy to receive your tape and turn it
into a digital file so that we can listen to it on the website! (I will of
course return your original - at my own cost).
Please do this - and ask others to do so too. We could end up with an
invaluable record of pontins history - from the people that really matter.
Instructions:
When you go to the site, it is important to register. This only requires a
name and email address. Please use you firstname-surname (no spaces) as your username, then we won't all get confused! Registration is immediate.
Click 'login' and you will be at a place called the 'dashboard'. Here, you
can change your settings and add more information about yourself if you
choose. But, more importantly, near the top, you can choose 'write'. Select
your chosen pontins camp/s from the list on the right (you can also choose
the Pontins Memories section if it is a general pontins comment), type your
title, and then write your post - just as if it was an email.
When you have finished, click the 'publish' button, and your story will be
saved on to the site. Others (and even yourself), will also be able to
comment on your posting.
That's it - it's that simple! I really hope we will build up a really
interesting set of stories and facts. I expect that reading someone else's
posting might also trigger a new memory of our own. DON'T KEEP IT TO
YOURSELF!
I will back-up the whole website every week so that no information is lost.
If anyone has any problem at all with using the site, you can ask me by
email or call me on the number below.
OK, the important bit.. This pontins memories website can be easily accessed
by going to: http://www.pontinshistory.co.uk/
And the Pontins Images section can be accessed by going to: http://www.pontinshistory.co.uk/images/
NB(2): On the site, there are other buttons which you can use to add links
and images etc. But if you are uncomfortable with this type of webpage, just
ignore them; - they don't matter.
For those who ARE comfortable with all this technology stuff, you can also
access your interactive part of the site by clicking 'site admin' near the
bottom right of the main page.
Also, if you know someone with a pontins history who just doesn't use
computers, I am very happy to put their information on the site on their
behalf. They (or you) can send me a letter and/or some photographs which I
will copy, return, and add to the site.
Thank you to everyone, in advance, for your help.
I can be contacted in any of the following ways:
Skype ID: howie10
Skype phone: 0161 408 0894. Call this number and I will answer it at my PC.
