Hi as promised the camps along the lowestoft coast.
You mentioned 2 were they owned by warners? You have corton beach and Gunton hall they are owned by warners. I worked at corton beach for a little while as a receptionist in the early 90s.
The other camps along this coast is broadland holiday village which is mostly static caravans, potters, and pontins ( ) at pakefield.
Welcome to the site i hope you enjoy it there is many people on here that could possibly help you in your search.
I think you will find that the lowestoft coastline has changed a lot over the years.
Take care any further questions dont hesitate to ask

Thanks Angelbabe for your quick reply. I worked at the Corton Beach Holiday Camp which was opposite the White Horse, the Warners camp in those days was further down the road next to The Hut pub. The camps i remember were all dotted along the coast from Corton to Hopton. There seemed to be one every few yards ! I know Potters is still going as i found their website. I've made my mind up though, i'm coming down tomorrow and going to walk along the beach from Corton to Hopton to see what is left. I understand the cliff is a bit dodgy now so if you see the rescue helicoptor scrambled it will be me ! Many thanks

Hi there. Would be grateful if anyone could remember the name of a small independant holiday camp that was situated between Corton and Hopton in Suffolk ? Unlike the other camps along this stretch which were built almost on the beach this camp was built probably a half mile away from the coast and was still running in the early 70's. I could find no trace of it yesterday as a brand new sewage treatment plant has been built on the site. Hopefully someone may remember the derelict camp it replaced. Many thanks

hiya,
there used to be a tiny privately owned holday centre on the left hand side all covered in trees. can't remember offhand whether it was before a tiny village on the opposite side of the church, or just after. i remember i used to cycle up there in 1990, and was just after a bend in the road to the left.
I used to work at warners gunton hall as well in 1990, on the ents team.

that's the one ! - and it was tiny ! i wish you had cycled in, don't suppose you remember if it was still operational in 1990 ? i'd be surprised if it had carried on much later than that. i only went there a couple of times, the three camps in Corton were so close together that the staff seemed to have some sort of reciprocal arrangement when it came to just popping in to each other camps. I am trying to document the history of these camps. they were here as early as the 1920's, several years before Mr Butlin came along but all seem to have been called Corton Holiday Camp at one time or other - very confusing. i'm interested in what this tiny camp was officially called - and how many campers it catered for ! Many thanks for your reply - at least i now know that it did exist. I shall pay another visit over the bank holiday weekend to interrogate the locals !
