Theres alot on the main site under clacton, theres also a thread of its demolition somewhere, use a search for clacton demolition, theres pictures of it there in ruins too. Hope that helps.

Hi Dipsy

Glad you made it, welcome to the forum.

I'm sure one of our Clacton devotees will have some information of interest to both you and your Mum.

Hi, I dont suppoes your mum would remember a chap from about that time called murray demarco? or similar spelling!!! he was also a red coat in Clacton at this time, as was my mum.

Just wondering if she would have any memories to share?

Thanks

believe me you do not want to get me started on memories of clacton. I went there every year for 14 years, apart from the two years we went to Bognor. I knew my way round that camp backwards. From when I was very small to the last time at Christmas I was 22 years old. We started off by going full board, then half board, then when self catering was introduced in the late 60s early 70s we started doing that. I used to love going to the supermarket. The big gift shop used to freak me out, as you had to choose ur item then go to pay then get a chitty and then find your back to the counter, not easy when you have not sense of direction. Times I have got lost in there.
Swimming in the outdoor pool during a downpour, walking round the camp at night after the indoor had closed and sniffing the air. Watching the doughnut machine in the gaiety foyer.
