View Full Version : 2008 Forum Get Together - Minehead May 19th-26th
Following on from the huge success of the 2006 and 2007 forum meet ups, the next forum gathering is planned for the week of
Monday May 19th - Monday May 26th 2008 at Minehead
Sadly our hands were a little tied date-wise due to Minehead being booked up for various festivals and things, meaning we couldn't get a normal Fri-Fri.
If you can only book for the weekend (as Kev & I are doing) then the dates are obviously Fri 23rd-Monday 26th with the main forum meet up being the Saturday (24th) for any day trippers.
Hope to see you there! I'm looking forward to it already! :D If it's going to be anything like previous ones, we'll all have the time of our lives!
Everyone is welcome so what are you waiting for?? :D You do as much or as little as you like. Some people only want to meet up a few times over the course of their time there, some like to join in more fully. It's totally up to the individual. The main thing is that we're all people that love Butlins so we all have that in common to begin with! What could be better? :)

I can't believe I am able to say this but.......
I AM GOING! I JUST BOOKED AND I WILL BE THERE!
I am so excited like a silly little kid!!!!!!! Of course I'm always excited to be going to Butlins (as anyone would be) but this is my first ever time at a forum get-together, so that just sweetens the deal even more!
I'm honestly looking forward to finally meeting all those who are going. After all, I've been chatting with some of you online for something like 5 years, probably longer!
At this stage it's just me going, there's a possibility of my brother coming too but he can't commit to it yet so I've just gone ahead and booked while the price is good, and he can book seperately if he does.
I'm only going for 4 nights (19 - 23 May). Would have liked to do 7 nights but for some crazy reason 4 nights is 87 pounds, and 7 nights is 233 pounds at the moment!!! (Booking online for 1 adult in standard half board).
Anyway that's really 5 days which is not bad at all.
CAN'T WAIT! NOT LONG NOW!

However I will not be doing anything of the sort.
Would you believe 3 nights starting Fri 23 May is 187 pounds (still in standard half board).
So 4 nights is 87 pounds, but you pay exactly 100 pounds MORE for the wonderful privilege of staying one LESS night, and consuming one days LESS worth of food! It's just wierd!

My journey from Adelaide to Minehead will consist of the following timetable
My house to Adelaide Airport - 5 minutes
Wait in airport - 3 hours
Adelaide to Singapore - 8 hours
Wait at Singapore - 3 hours
Singapore - London Heathrow - 13 hours
Wait / processing in London - 1 hour
London to Manchester - about 1 hour I think
Then I spend a week or so with family but that doesn't count as part of the journey. Then
Manchester to Minehead - 4 hours (if I don't get lost)
Total journey time Adelaide to Minehead approx 33 hours, and well worth it!

It does seam very strange, but maybe it is so cheap in the weekend as its not a school holiday and it the weekend the bank holiday week, so it will be the start of the school holidays, maybe once on site, you could check with booking shop, surley if they have rooms to spare the price should be lower.

Yeah Debsy is right, the Monday Friday 19th - 23rd is non school hols, the weekend Friday 23rd- Monday 26th is the start of May half term/ whitsun week, so that is why its more pricey for that.
And yes so is my caravan!!

I hope I don't blink at the moment you wave at me. That would make the whole 33 hour journey from Adelaide something of a waste wouldn't it? Not to mention the thousands of dollars I'm spending.
How about if you use one of those massive novelty foam hand things you can get from blackpool and just wave along the whole length of the M5. That way I should have a good chance of seeing you.

So is anything in particular planned for us to do together apart from the quiz which is looks like I might miss?
Wellll there's not just a quiz... there's a wordsearch too ;)
Seriously though, we're putting our thinking caps on even as I type. One thing we hoped was to be able to include you in as much as possible even though you leave on the Friday, so you get to experience as much as possible.
If anyone has any ideas though, please add them to the hat! I was wondering if everyone wanted a scavenger hunt again like before or whether people wanted a break from those? Most people seemed to enjoy that at Skeggy last year.
One thing is even though the weekend is the forum get together, there won't be things organised every minute of every day as we know people will want to be able to do their own things too so I should imagine there will be one main meet up event featuring the quiz etc, then each night there will be a particular venue where people can choose to meet up with everyone for drinks/chats if they wish or go into smaller groups in other venues - it's all very laid back and people are free to join in as much or as little as they like. It's all nice and relaxed.
Here are some examples;

Something I would really love to do whilst at Minehead is to be taken on a guided tour of parts of the camp that are not normally open to the public anymore but used to be.
Obviously it's too late to see the beachcomber and junior showplace, but there is still the old sunsplash, old shopping arcade, and there MUST surely be some fascinating areas hidden away in the Regency, Princes, nursery, dining hall and Gaiety buildings (and possibly elsewhere too).
I work in a department store that was previously a very different department store and the previous company doesn't even exist anymore but is remembered with much affection by most people in Adelaide. I have access to all non-public areas of the store and I can tell you there is TONS of stuff around that's out of public view now but still looks and feels like the old store. I'm sure the analogy here is obvious! People who work there must see bits of the old Butlins every day!
If I was by myself I would find it very hard to do this unless I was lucky enough to find doors open and sneak around, but then you risk being 'caught' and suspected of all kinds of things, and possibly even being thrown off the camp and even prosecuted.
I'm wondering if anyone (ideally someone who is going to the Minehead get together but doesn't have to be) has a contact at Minehead, or at Bourne head office who could arrange for us to have a guided tour of such places, perhaps with an employee who has worked there some years and knows the history.
Can anyone help with the contact? Even if you just PM me with a name and number or preferably email address and I will do the rest???

One more idea. It was mentioned a while ago in another thread that we should look at making up some Butlins Memories merchandise.
One thing that could be fun would be to make up some Butlins Memories t-shirts and all of us wear them when we meet up.
It would certainly help to attract new members to this forum and new visitors to the BM site and it might also spark a new interest in Butlins history for some people who see us and then visit the site.
What does everyone think? Anyone got ideas how we could do this?

This is very possible as we did have t-shirts for the first and second forum get togethers (organized brilliantly by Wize & Joker who set a high standard or us to follow) so I am guessing this needs a topic to discuss what people want and what people would be prepared to pay so we can get quotes sorted.
I agree, pushbutton - looking through old/unused areas would be fantastic and is something we need to think carefully about. I agree - we don't want to upset anyone or worse, get misunderstood and thrown out!

Unless there's someone on this forum who works at Minehead or is able to influence those who do then it would probably be something that we'd have to organise when we got there.
Maybe we should start by all listing exactly what days we will be there from and to. That way if we organise this we can make sure it's on a day that suits us all.
I'm there 19 May (should arrive by 12pm) until early afternoon on 23 May.
I'm happy to approach someone about this on camp or maybe even phone or email them in advance. But could everyone please say when you'll be there first so I'll know what day to ask for this tour.
I'll start a seperate thread for t-shirts on the "all other things" section.

We should all bring along our collection of Butlins memorabilia, whether its one item or 10000 to show each other.

Hi,
If anyone is interested in renting my caravan , yes its not a chalet but you can fit in more than two!!
Looking at the prices Butlins charge as posted previously:-
I just checked prices online and it looks like this;

19th-26th full week, standard half board for two people; ?290!!!!
23rd-26th weeknd, standard self catering for four people; ?330

My caravan is available
Monday 19th - 23rd May 4 nights ?225.00
then the start of half term weekend
Friday 23rd - Monday 26th May 3 nights ?300.00
and yes it is more for any school holiday periods!!
I take a ?75.00 bond on top of the holiday cost in case of any damages / extra cleaning but as long as there is no problems this is refunded after the holiday, I send a cheque drawn on my account back to your home address.
Don't lambast me for advertising this , if people want to go and can't afford Butlins prices you can team up and stay together for half the cost!!

Hey guyssssssss just checking in 'cos I figured it's been a wa-hiiile!
Still aiming to come visit! I've convinced the girls at work that a few days at butlins would be cool 'cos the lads always go away on football watching weekends and us girls get stuck at work covering... and quite coincidentally they've run with it and been looking at that week!!!
But I will let you know, and attempt to keep clocking in!!!!!
Ciao for now fellas!!!! Xxxxxxxxxxxx
There are only only 49 days to go now (that's 7 weeks if you want to know!) and I am thinking about packing!!
I can't wait to get back to Minehead - it has been a while. I've not been there since 2006 so it will be interesting to see the place and of course I am very much looking forward to meeting up with everyone :D

Hey everyone, don't forget to pack your Butlins souvinirs / memorabilia (old and new) so we can all check them out!
And speaking of packing, who's started already?
I haven't yet, but I'm planning to start this coming Friday! (Not packing specifically for Butlins admittedly though, but for my trip to UK in general).
For those who haven't started packing yet, when are you planning to do so?
28 days to go! (That = 4 weeks, if you're cynical!) I'll have to leave my packing until the night or two night before but I already know in my head what I am bringing and especially have my night time outfits sourced and sorted!
I CAN'T WAIT!!
(Getting a bit over-excited, actually!)

Me & my gf are also going that week(was originally going Skeg but swapped it to Minehead)
Seen pics etc of most yas,so will defo say hi and meet up for on any occasion :)
^ Fantastic! The main meet up will be Friday in Bar Rosso at approx 1pm for anyone around at that time so that we can see Pushbutton before he has to say goodbye! Obviously that is dependant on traffic so if you pass Bar Rosso at 1pm and it is empty, please do try again a short while later!
Don't worry - anyone that can't make that time, we'll certainly be arranging other meet ups throughout the weekend and everybody just joins in as much or as little as they like!
I'm happy to give out my mobile number for the weekend to those attending - feel free to pm me about that. I can then text you with the latest plans etc.

Kath when you say friday is that the 23rd you mean?
We have booked for the monday-friday
But are staying until the following monday as the rest of the family are comingdown and have payed for us to stay for the extra days with it being Bank holiday.
(The only downside is we have to pack our case asif we where departing on the friday as we will obviously be a different chalet for the weekend)
So probably have to throw our cases in left luggage on the friday to come to the meet up;) hence why i asked the 1st question.
^ Pushbutton will be there the Mon- Fri 23rd. Discokev and I arrive lunchtime on the 23rd so we figured that would be a good time to start off! See you there!

Wot? You mean you've never been to Minehead? Seriously, you need to go, even if it's twice as far or 10 times as far, because you haven't really experienced Butlins fully until you've been to Minehead.

Agreed Skegness is well the superior camp in my eyes(and thats without a hotel aswell!)
Just think with having lots to do outside the camp also it makes it a little more attractive place to visit(love fantasy island and a good nosey around the market, and not forgetting the town is buzzin in the summer time)

I'm sure we could get ourselves into a huge argument, and quite possibly a violent bloodbath over that Skegred, so yes, let's agree to disagree! I'm sure we both agree though, that both camps are good old original Butlins camps, and therefore both camps are wonderful, sacred places that will always be loved!

I know what you mean. I remember as a kid we mainly went to Minehead or skeggy, but one year for a change we went to Ayr.

Thanks - we did have a GREAT time! The rain spoilt nothing! We had a blast!
The only low point of the entire weekend was lunch in Pizza Hut on the Monday. It was awful. I'm suprised butlins allow staff to behave like that. The greeter was surly and rude and the waiter ignored us and then told us we were having the buffet after we'd waited 20 minutes from being seated to even get spoken too. We were really annoyed because we walked in there all happy and relaxed after a prefect weekend at Butlins, only to be treated really badly. It was such a contrast to what we had seen everywhere else that weekend.
They were busy, so we were quite happy to wait but there's no excuse for rudeness! They just acted like they couldn't be bothered. It was a shame. We were spoken to abruptly and ignored! Our waited never once actually came to our table to talk to us - he told us from the till what we were having and then I had to call him for the bill an hour later. He never spoke to us once inbetween times.
Apart from that, the weekend was sensational. The Redcoats were all so friendly and we saw them every turn and step of the day! They really made us feel welcome and happy! Redcoat Dan in particualar seemd to go above and beyond normal duties and really cared that people were okay - he missed his break to come and say goodbye to people leaving that day.

What you can't see on here is exactly how many times Kath made me pose for this photo, it took a lot of attempts till she was happy with it!!
Fantastic Entertainment laid on throughout a very rainy day;
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c361/LonePineKath/Minehead%20Forum%202008/IMG_1657.jpg
The entertainment on Monday in the Skyline was fantastic and very impressive considering it was all laid on especially because of the rain! We got to see Billy, Bob, Dino, the Skyline Gang and Redcoats putting on fantastic entertainment! My favourite bits were the crazy dancing competition when a couple of kids had to each bring a parent on stage to dance and when they spun Redcoat Dan round to Kylie's Spinning Around for a minute or so and then sent him running round the Skyline, stopping him to spin a couple more times, was so funny watching him bump straight into the front of the stage as soon as he tried to move!
The lovely Redcoat Dan;
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c361/LonePineKath/Minehead%20Forum%202008/IMG_1641.jpg
As just said above, Dan was brilliant! He got a special mention on our feedback form and was so happy when we showed him the comment! The kids quite clearly absolutely loved him, they kept hugging him and you could see him sat on a sofa at one point absolutely surrounded by kids! He missed his break on Monday because the other two redcoats were making him run round and shake everyone's hand and still kept smiling and making everyone's holiday so special.
It was fantastic to see Arry again (thank you for the fantastic pin badges and cards!!) and to meet Pushbutton for the first time. It was lovely to see Kev again too! What a great weekend!
As Kath said, it was great to see both Arry and Pushbutton this weekend, enjoyed chatting to both of you and hope to see you both at future get-togethers etc.
Have to agree about Pizza Hut. The only reason we stayed was because we'd already tried all the other places to eat and couldn't see anything else that we fancied! It really didn't feel like Butlins at all! There was only one tiny little window so we couldn't see Butlins outside, there was no sign of Butlins inside and the attitude of the staff was in complete contrast to the Redcoats and every other member of staff we'd met only a few metres away. Luckilly, we had an hour after that before we left the camp and sitting infront of the Skyline Gang managed to make us feel a lot better!
NOW I know what all the fuss about redcoats is for ... this is what I'm missing on adult weekends !!!
The Redcoats were absolutely brilliant, everywhere we turned they were walking past, smiling and saying hello! It especially impressed me when two Redcoats walked past, quite clearly having their own conversation but they stop that to smile and say hello to us, then carry on their own conversation before stopping to say hello to someone else.
I was also impressed with the blonde girl (second from the left on Kath's party dance photo - don't know her name), she stopped dancing and stuck her tongue out for one of Kath's photos, waiting until the photo had been taken. She was also running around with another Redcoat at the back of Reds towards the end of the night, providing fantastic entertainment as an alternative to the act on the main stage! She also made me smile when she tapped me on one shoulder and then ran the opposite way! So many Redcoats were great! :)
Kath .. what does the bottom of this t-shirt say??
Kath's t-shirt reads "He's not my boyfriend, he's my bodyguard"
yes he looks so like him :) hes very cute!! might have to go to minehead now lol sounds like you have a great time :) i love your bud tatoo!! i want a candi but i bet they dont have them yet at skeggy :( x
If you text Raani, she'll be able to tell you if they have! You get a pack of all six for only 99p. I still have five left! (and the Bud one has survived several showers and still looks fine!) I'd offer you the Candi one, but my daughter wants that one - sorry! LOL! if I'd thought about it I should've got you a pack while I was there!!
Kath .. what does the bottom of this t-shirt say??
x
"Lover" LOL!!!!!
Just kidding!! It says "He's not my boyfriend, he's my bodyguard!" One of the security made me unfold my arms asa I walked into Reds and I thought she was checking I had no alcohol but she actually wanted to read the bottom of the t-shirt - LOL! I bought the t-shirt after the first forum get together in honour of Kev! Everybody thinks we're a couple, but we're not - he's available, laydeeez! LOL! (I'm happily married - Kev's on of my best friends in the whole wide world!)

Haha! I like it ...

First of all OMG looking at the pics,Pushbutton was infront of me waiting to get on one of the flumes in splash! on wednesday(correct me if am wrong).Tall lad strawberry blonde hair ring any bell. Also i may of possibly seen you with a piece of paper in your hand around half 1 on that friday you was just walking around so obviously didnt think that you where on this forum/obviously didnt know who you was.
Until i have just seen your pic in this topic
Looked around Bar Rosso at 1.30pm on friday to no avail,(was looking for a group of people as thought there was going to be a few, there was quite a few mini groups sitting on the silver seats but didnt recognise any faces)
So in the end just stood near the amusements and looked to see if i could see anyone which i didnt
Mobile was dead and didnt take my blastin charger away with me so went to the supposed internet cafe but the pc's do not work anymore as the whole site is wi-fi instead:evil:
As i was going to come on here and read my pm from you Kath to retrieve your mobile number and call you.
Feel like i have let yas down in away especially with not meeting up etc so very sorry about that!
Hope yous had a good time, and when i manage to put my pics that i took from my phone i wouldnt be surprised if either of yous seen me during your break as afterall i am abit of a beanpole height wise ha!
^ Awww - I was sitting in Bar Rosso until just after 1pm when the hunt started - I needed the toilet so I went for a wander while the others did the hunt and then came back at 1:20 to wait for them (after a quick look in Treasures - couldn't resist!!). I'm so sorry you didn't get to see us! We were in bright yellow t-shirts but I must admit, I was a bit cold so had my blue jacket on while I waited for them to return!
I don't remember seeing you - I so wish I had! It's a shame about your charger - Kev had the same problem - his phone was dead from Saturday too!
I guess you didn't see us because at 1:30pm we'd sat on the leather seats in Bar Rosso so our backs were to the amusements! Aww!
I'm looking forward to seeing your pics to see if i recognise you! :)
Not to worry - hope to see you next time, maybe!

On the subject of pizza hut, that was the first time i have ever eaten out of their but never again!!! service was ok as it was for take-away but the pizza was very poor!
Only got a cheese and ham pizza but the slice of ham looked asif it had been taken out a packet cut into two halves and just threw on lol!
What made it worse i had a upset stomach shortly after eating it and boy i was hittin the toilet several times the following day.
Guttered that i did not manage to catch up with the three of yas,but didnt see either of yas during that weekend:( although it may of been abit of a ask as Butlins was heaving with guests so chances where even slimmer:(
Pictures are on my phone but i am having trouble at the moment getting them onto my pc as my phone is playing up.
^ Sounds like that Pizza Hut really needs to pull its act together. It was appalling.
Anyway, onto other things, here's a picture of the puddle I stood in to get a good photo!

We did, thanks!
It's high time I commented on the entertainment we saw each evening!
Friday night we started off watching "El Loco", a sort of comedy act in Reds. It was okay but didn't really grab me! We got a bit bored and wandered over to Centre Stage for a show called "Altogether Now" which is supposedly tunes chosen by Butlins guests for a great show - and it was great - it was just a bit annoying that the songs were edited to fit more in so you couldn't sing along! They had 5 VK for ?12 in there too so singing along seemed like a fab idea! LOL! I can't actually remember if we went back to Reds after that (don't think we did but Kev might correct me!) but I do know we ended up in Jaks last thing and that was great. We stayed til they closed at 2am and then shivered our way back to our beds.
Saturday night I wasn't feeling too good and the "comedy" act in Reds was so rubbish, it really didn't help! At one point he asked "Is this your first time being an audience??" to which I felt like yelling back "No, why, is this your first time on stage??". He was terrible. Nobody was laughing. We soon left and went over to Centre Stage for the famous "King Meets Queen" show, which neither of us had seen before but it creates so much controversy on here we had to see it for ourselves and we really liked it! (Mind you, anything was better than what was going on in Reds at that point!!). We had a quick stop at Burger King then went back to Reds and saw the brilliant Jamie and the First Class perform - they were so good! After that we saw a drag act, Glam and Glitz (ie Drag with no Name) and they were okay but to be honest I felt so tired and ill (too much vodka!) that I just wanted to go to bed, so I did! It was a shame because I had really been looking forward to the late night adult only disco in Reds at 1am but there was no way I was going to make it!
Sunday I felt great again (coke and crisps help!). Code Red & Bruce Parker were up first and I loved that - esp when he did "Disco Inferno" - good memories! Illusionist Paul Stockman in Reds was pretty trashy but after that, music from The Man From Funcle was great and they had a few party dances too. I did miss how Skeggy do the dances (they make a much bigger, better deal of them) but I still really enjoyed those.
I must say all the Redcoats we encountered were fab - all interacting with people and even mignling with the guests to make sure everyone was happy. In particular, Redcoat Dan went above and beyond the call of duty even missing his break to say goodbye to people. he was a star! :)
Overall a good weekend. Only three main complaints;
Half Board food - what went wrong?? I normally love it and it was awful all weekend! Soggy and cardboardy (apart from the deserts which were all fab)
Pizza Hut - The staff were so rude! We walked in happy and relaxed and walked out upset and angry!
Party Dances - come on Minehead - have a look at Skeggy's! ;)
I don't want to be unfair though - it was indeed a great weekend. In particular;
The monday entertainment all day in the Skyline. It was pouring outside but time just flew by while three or four Redcoats kept us entertained with a lovely variety of things on the Skyline Stage.
Redcoat Daniel - he was so kind and thoughtful.
Billy's Boogie Fun - So funny!
Altogether Now - Fab idea for a show
Jamie and the First Class - Great stage presence!
Oh and can someone please put the heating on in Splash Waterworld! LOL! I was smuggling peanuts! ;)

I've seen Jamie and the First Class at Bognor ... they are brilliant aren't they! They were actually better than a couple of the original acts and really got the crowd going!
And as for Dan .... thanks for putting the pic on here - certainly brightens my day ;)

Couldnt agree more Kath!
With being there for the 7 days it was basically the same choices of foods each day.
For Example
fish & chips
roast dinner(4 days it was roast chicken!)
cardboard pizza
The food on offer was no way near as good as Skeg or Bognor.
Even with the above,my opinions have changed a touch i always thought Skegness in all was in a league of its own compared to the 2 other camps but the past holiday at Minehead has swayed me abit and i feel Minehead is getting just as good as a destination to visit.
Can't put my finger on what it is but....
^ Glad it wasn't just me then! Weird. I had great Half Board food at Minehead last time I was there so not sure what went wrong really.
About the Minehead Party Dances - I feel the need to clarify. While I felt they were nowhere near Skeggy standards I don't blame the Redcoats one bit for this! They were enthusiastic and fab. What I didn't like was that there was no build up and they were shoved away in a dark corner to the far left so it didn't get the whole room going like it does at Skeggy. It was quite hard to see what was going on unless you were right by them.
Again, I don't blame the actual Redcoats for this - they put loads of energy in and the DJ (can't remember his name) made us all laugh by making them do it faster and faster - which was brilliant! It was purely a case of bad design that the dancefloor was shoved way over there! I know Reds at Skeggy used to have a similar thing until a couple of years ago.
I did find it strange that they don't do the same dances as Skeggy but that's just my personal taste. I was desperate to hear Chocolatte, Cha cha slide ChicoTime or even Time Warp and we didn't get a party dance to any of those (although they did play Cha cha slide later in the evening, which was great!). I was stunned to find, when I asked the DJ later, he'd not even heard of Chocolatte! I knew Ckeggy had really championed that dance (I'd never heard of it until Skeggy last year) but I had just assumed it would have naturally filtered its way over to Minehead by now since everybody loves it so much!
[/rant]
I'll shut up now!
Just wanted to clarify - Minehead redcoats are great - I love them very much. Especially Dan, but we won't go into that here....!

So Skegy is your nearest, are the trains expensive?? I once came home from Skeg on the train as the people I was with decided to go home on the sunday and I wanted to stop, had to change at lincoln and then go to donny, and get my mum to pick me up, was ok, but with just buying a single at the station was well over 20 quid xx

Me & Kath went exploring around the Minehead Camp last weekend, the photos on this page (http://www.butlins-memories.com/minehead/photos2008/index.htm) show our findings which included the remains of the Skyline Cafe (although, unfortunately, not the giant Redcoat which used to live above it!).
Enjoy! :)

That explains why we couldn't see it anywhere then!!
I had wondered what the building had been used for! There are two buildings over that side of the camp, a smaller one nearest the carpark which includes accom. enquiries and a much larger, two storey one behind it. Presumably the smaller one was the check-in? Do you know if the larger one was ever open to guests or has it always been staff only?

According to the 1986 map it was a "foodmarket" (I assume that means a supermarket like everydays, open to campers).
I took several photos of that building, but somehow, wierdly, they are not on my memory card now. How that can happen I have no idea.
Did you go around to the back of that building and see its original blue and red facade?

Just looking through your brilliant photos page now and see that you did indeed get to see the blue and red facade. I have a feeling that, with the exception of Mosney which we can't get in, and the possible exception of any old buildings at Bognor I don't know about, that may well be the last remaining complete facade of an orignal large butlins building that is still in it's original colours and has not been re-clad.
Also well done on finding the skyline cafe, was it just pure luck or did you have to do some detective work on that?
I also love the photos of the yellow room with all the cleaning equipment in it. What was that originally? I only ask because it looks too nice to have always been a cleaning storage room.

Yes, i had simply assumed that the foodmarket shown on the 1986 was the shop which is still open as Everydays at the back of the camp. Although, it does look more likely to be one of those two buildings based on it's position. I notice though that the map only shows one building there as opposed to two so I wonder if the foodmarket was in the smaller or larger building, can anyone help?

Yes, I think you're right that could be the last complete original facade in those colours, I certainly haven't see one in Bognor.

We actually went there looking for the giant Redcoat after our meeting with Arry! It was Kath who recognised the various parts as being the Skyline Cafe!

Arry told us that it'd recently been refitted although I'm not sure how often it opens.....

Unfortunately there were not enough people to make the quiz worthwhile but we have kept hold of it, am resisting looking at the questions or answers and will make use of it another time! Thanks for all the effort you went to, much appreciated!
