Forum get-together, Skegness 11th September 2009

As already announced here, (http://www.butlins-memories.com/forums/showthread.php?p=115394&postcount=36) the date of the 2009 family forum get-together has been set for Friday 11th - Friday 18th September 2009. Anyone wishing to join us for the weekend should book for Friday 11th - Monday 14th and any day visitors should aim to join us on Saturday 12th when we plan to hold the main get-together, treasure hunt, etc.

Pleased to say that Kath has been to Skeggy's booking shop and booked our spaces for the weekend at the bargain price of ?70.50 each for the weekend (Silver halfboard) so I thought that this get-together now deserved it's own thread.

I know that a few of you have already expressed interest on the other thread but it's probably easiest if you reply here to confirm so that we can get a list going.

See you there (if not at one of the two weekends before!!). I'll start another thread for the 2009 Bognor adult weekend soon!

I have aready booked to go 11th-18th September 2009. I originally picked 18th-25th September 2009, but I went back in the booking shop and changed it as I knew that there was talk of a forum meet around that time and I booked it a week late (my sister KKBTB told me it was week begining 11th September 2009).

The price of our holiday is ?420 - that includes guaranteed ground floor (?10) and insurance.
I have booked Standard Self catering for 7 nights. I like using Standard Appartments as they are right near the Skyline. I have requested the same appartment that I had this year - right next to the staff accommodation.

There are six of us going. Me and my husband. My son who will be 16 then, My eldest daughter who will be 14 then, My second eldest daughter who will be 5 then and my youngest daughter who will be 2 then.

seriously thinking about going that weekend with my two girls as it would be nice to meet everyone and be a new butlins experiance for me we were planning anyway to have 2 small family hollidays next year instead of the 1 for 7 nights in the school hollidays for a change,and im also planning my first adult break next year so all new hollidays next year:D

Haha! I Know :D We Get on the 660 in Barnsley and we usually have a Rest break in Sheffield - which is really annoying because weve only been on the Coach for about 25 minutes

Kath sorry but i dont think ill get to either meet this year as i am away at other holiday resorts ( kicking and sreaming ) as im going with the family and doing the uncle thing.

I would have loved to try bognor but the distance puts me off, i think im starting to put roots down at Skeggy as i will be back on Adult breaks again this year.

Was just thinking about this last night, on the Saturday does everyone fancy having a game on the adventure golf and pair up into two's and have a little competition and the winning pair who card the lowest score win a trophy?

Kath and me have a quiz which Pushbutton wrote last year (and which we haven't yet had chance to use) which we're planning to use on the Saturday but it would be good to play some golf at some point too! :)

I love your idea of the golf tournament, Keno! :) I reckon we could aim to do that after the Forum group activities on the Saturday. From past experience, it can take anything up to an hour to get everyone together for the quiz etc (depending on how much fun we all had the night before! LOL!) so by the time that's done then everyone will be ready for a bit of golf, I reckon! Brilliant idea!

I think we're planning a scavenger hunt too because everyone seemed to enjoy that last time. I think it helps break the ice too if people don't know each other yet. After searching for the special clues usually any ice is quickly broken! :) It'll be suitable for all ages too. Last time people quickly decided to join into teams rather than going separately so they could all help each other! It was crazy! Good times...!

All these things are optional of course. Nobody has to feel they have to join in anything. Some people might just want to watch or whatever, it is all very relaxed.

Can you change my number to Marie+7, mum and dad (all still standard HB) are coming as well.
KKBTB and her family is also coming but cannot get there until saturday as they are staying in a caravan due to Butlins only having Gold SC left and wanting to charge around £1000 far a week, the caravan only cost £299 for the week which is a heck of a difference.

Really looking forward to the holiday, booked mine over a year ago on resort. Now saving the spending money - mini bus money already saved, booked and deposit paid. We are leaving at 8 am and will be in the Skyline at around 1 pm. Mum is in a wheelchair so the train is not an option after last years experience - we had disabled seats reserved so she can stay in her wheel chair and the Grantham to Skegness train was packed and the reserved wheel chair spot was full up with luggage near enough to the ceiling, we had the train porter move the luggage for us , but it was too stressfull to repeat that again this year.

Where can you get the coundown things that some poeple have in their signature? I would really like one of those. Not the ticker factory ones, the text ones like Future Redcoat Becca has.

Just logged on to let you all know I have booked a caravan and my sister (marie2003) beat me to it :o( lol.

Had a quick check on butlins website and they have lowered the price of the hol and added more accomodation .... there are now some silver for 2 adult and 3 kids where earlier in the year I was only offered gold at a very high price of £1000 for self catering ... so therefore for the first time ever I have booked caravan ..... but this means no holiday guide ... no premier vouchers to spend ..... and holiday wont count towards my premier level :o( also this means we will be doing saturday to saturday rather than friday to friday !!

Never mind not long now, have any meet up plans been made yet? hope they arent all gonna be on the first friday lol

awwwww, I'd LOVE to go... just seen some pics of the t-shirts on the photo gallery :D but I'm allready going to minehead 18th (hopefully 18th not 19th evening...) and I'm allready having trouble getting time off at the mo (see whole 18th/19th issue) but hopefully I shall make the next one (especially the next minehead one), would be great to see some of the people here in person and share those wonderful memories! ^_^, that is if i'm not working there by then!

We should be there around 12-30pm - 1-30pm, We are going by road this year instead of the train, it will take around 3 hours not including stopping time. We are leaving at 8 am.

Me and Samuel were only going for the day on Saturday but after speaking to our close friends who own a caravan we ended up going up after work on friday surprising Kath and Kev and everyone else, we got home 45 mins ago.

Had an amazing time. Really just cannot believe it's all over already. Photos to follow in a few days. It was so fantastic to met everyone - old friends and new. We all had such a blast. I loved the fact that I couldn't get from one end of the Skyline to another without bumping into a forum member! LOL! Brilliant times....

Yes, Push, we used your quiz (although I was in competition with the racket coming from the Puppet Castle so I have no voice left! LOL!) and Gloucester House won!!! They went crazy and I got a photo of that! :)

We had a scavenger hunt too and I was amazed at how many points each team managed to catch in the time allowed! It was really, really close between the winners and runners up too! Only a matter of a few points! The teams had to solve a riddle and then collect certain items from a sachet of ketchup from Burger King to as many Redcoat autographs as possible! There were also bonus points for special photos of various key features of the camp... with a twist! Teams had to perform certain tasks to make the photos count, like all sit down or all hold hands! It made for some interesting pics! :lol:

I had such a great time - thank you so much to everyone!

Oh and in "First to Burst", the host of the show did a Pwllheli joke during his sketch but I don't think the audience got it! It was a bit obscure through! Something about how he's had this so long he got it from Phwllheli!

Here's a little review of the weekend (pics to follow tomorrow)

Friday

Kev and I arrived early so we went to have a good swim in Splash. I think we were in there over 2 hours! It was brilliant as it was fairly empty so we kept going on the slides! There was one hairy moment when I was bringing Kev's crutches down the stairs and I stopped to watch him sliding down. He came down the green one so fast, he nearly flew out of the top on one corner! I have watched a LOT of people come down the slides whilst I queue and I have never seen anyone fly out that far before!!

We were really hungry by the time we got out (about 1:30 or so) so we decided to get a Papa John's pizza and have it in the Skyline. It was delicious but I managed to slop half of the sauce down me... and then I spotted nattyjane (Mandy) and had to go and say hello whilst covered in red blobs! :lol:

Our chalet was lovely and really clean too. However, I'd wanted a shower (after swimming) as soon as we got in but we discovered the shower wasn't working (water was gushing out of the base). Guest Services was only around the corner so instead of texting, we walked round. The person there was lovely and said there should be someone out to it within half an hour so Kev and I decided to pop across to Bar Rosso for a Black Russian (My favourite!). Well, we DID have a Black Russian, but then we decided to try some VK and Kev had a Cosmopolitan and well, to cut a long story short, we started working our way through the shots menu! We were sensible - we did stop half way through to go and have dinner in Coral Beach and then we went back and finished the rest of the shots menu. I do remember singing along to a lot of Skyline Gang shows as we got nearer the end of the list! I should really drink shots, as they make me very sick, but I thought I would be okay to just have little sips!! :lol: I don't know what planet I was on! I'm sorry to say that later in the evening, I was very, very sick in Centre Stage toilets!! Anyway, we eventually made it back to the chalet a lot later than planned! I just got into the chalet when I had a surprise phonecall that Angelbabe and Samuel Butlins were early so hey came over to our chalet where we sat and chatter for a while and before I knew it I had drunk three quarters of a bottle of wine!! I did actually feel fine... until I tried to stand up!!

Anyway, eventually we made it over to Reds for some more VK and met up with Keno051 and his girlfriend. After that we moved on to Centre Stage for Sound of the Underground, which was really good. I started to feel a bit better after a bit and then we went to Hotshots for a dance (except I had to sit down for my dancing! :lol: )

Saturday

I felt absolutely fine Saturday morning and sprang out of bed but started to feel rougher as the day went on! Serves me right! In fact, I felt so poorly I didn't touch another drop of alcohol for the rest of the weekend and stayed on the Mocktails from The Front Room! :lol:

I could only manage a child's portion of fry up, which was just about right for me! I was very excited to see fried bread too - that's a real holiday treat for me!

We started to meet everyone at the Skyline Opening Ceremony and then we moved to Bar Rosso for the quiz. Unfortunately I had managed to time the quiz to coincide with the Puppet Castle show so I had to bellow to be heard!! After stretching our brains, it was time to stretch our legs and I sent everyone off on the famous Butlins Memories scavenger hunt! I snuck off to the final destination but it was really hard to get there without being seen by the for teams dashing around the camp!

We had;

Keggy From Skeggy; KKBTB & Marie 2003 & their families
Butlins Masters; discokev, Angelbabe, Samuel Butlins
Team Star; Nattyjane and family
Shuffler Crew; FutureRedcoatBecca & Mum, Keno051 & Kayley.

They had one hour to solve a riddle, then run around the camp collecting as many items as possible from the list. Harder items gained more points and some tasks involved getting all of your team to a special point and getting a photo. For example, one task was to photograph your entire team holding hands in front of the Historic Butlins Chalet!

Everyone really went for it and it was very, very close in the end, but the Butlins Masters just pipped Keggy from Skeggy by a few points!

Later in the day we had the Adventure Golf Tournament, organised by Keno051. It was a lot of fun and there was a tense, nail biting finish as Kayley (Kenny's girlfriend) and Tracey (Marie 2003) we so closely matched! It was really exciting! They ended up having to go around and play the first two holes again as it was a tie! The winner received an engraved trophy from Keno051!

Saturday night some of us went to The Front Room to see an Unplugged Session featuring Redcoats Dan C and Jack. It was amazing. I have never seen anything like that before at Butlins and it was such a moving performance and a great change of pace.

We followed that with a trip to Reds (where Samuel Butlins and I did chocolatte together!) and then off to get some more food before bed!

Sunday

We just hung out and relaxed on Sunday. Some of us joined in the Opening Ceremony and Pingu's Wicked Workout and we just sat and chatted and stuff. The panto was on too and I think almost everybody went to see that? It was very dark in there though so none of us sat together as far as I know! LOL! (this is where it turns out everybody else was sat together and I was lost, isn't it! LOL!)

In the afternoon some of us went to see the Bob show in the yard and I texted everyone and said anyone who wants to be in a group photo, come and meet us there at 4:30 for the photoshoot! :) We let all the little kiddies get their turn, then we all went up together last of all!

In the evening, Becca, Kev and I were at the back of the party dances in the Skyline (near the cafe part) and we got spotted by Redcoat Gemma on stage and she said we were too good to be at the back and should come up to the front! LOL! She even sent Redcoat Jack to come and fetch us, so that made my day! :lol: I do love a good party dance!

We went to Centre Stage after that but didn't stay out too long as I was worn out! :lol:

Monday

Awww. None of us could believe it was hometime so soon. We had such a fabulous weekend and just can't wait for the next one!

We tried the Yacht Club for the first time and the food was amazing!

Starters;
We had the soup and a roll, followed by a salad. The soup was the same as Coral Beach/Ocean Drive but the sala had far more choice and proper dressings too!

We had sweet and sour vegetables for the main course but the peppers and things were better quality than Ocean Drive/Coral Beach ones. The rice was cooked well too, not rock hard! LOL!

Good to hear another reference to the past. Shame some of the audience wouldn't have got it but surely a fair few of them would.

Glad to hear the quiz went well too!

The whole event sounds like it was fabulous! Wish I could have been there, but nice to know I was sort of part of it in a small way by providing the quiz.

It looks to me like there's actually more information in there than in the previous version of the entertainment guide they had until recently. I don't think the previous one had such a detailed "hour by hour" daily guide.

Obviously there's nowhere near as much in this as you used ot get up to the 80s but I think I have to say I prefer it to the previous ones, which really had hardly anything in them.

One of the best things I saw last weekend though has to be the new Unplugged session in The Front Room with Redcoats Jack & Dan. It felt really special, like an intimate gig. We really, really enjoyed it. They were so good.

It was lovely to see something so different at Butlins, a change from the usual. Redcoat Dan's voice really suited the songs too. I'd love to be able to see that again so I hope it is still running in February. I actually felt quite emotional when it was over! It was so moving!

They've refurbished the largest venue in each camp which means that Reds got refurbished at Skeggy but that Centre Stage got refurbished at the other two.

Reds is in the old Queens building at Skeggy and Centre Stage is in the old Empress building. Centre stage is above Reds at Bognor and Minehead but they're in completely separate buildings at Skeggy and Reds is away from the Skyline.

Looks like a wonderful time was had by all, and what an amazing collection of Butlins badges! Wish I could have been there. Maybe the next forum get together should be a month long one at Minehead this October!

It really was a wonderful holiday, both from the Butlins side of things (great entertainment/atmosphere) and the forum side. Everyone was so easy to talk to and it just felt like everyone knew everyone else straight away, whether it was someone like Anne/Anglebabe & Sam(uelbutlins) or (disco)Kev who I have met loads of times or Kenny(Keno051) and Kayley who we met for the very first time and everyone inbetween. We all just seemed to pick up where we left off. I found Mandy/Nattyjane in Toybox while I was covered in pizza sauce and I caught up with Skegred/Andy outside the Holiday Booking Shop, where I was greeted with a huge hug! Tracey(Marie2003) spotted me in the check in queue! :lol: Just sitting in the Skyline I was able to shout Karen/KKBTBH over to take a photo for me! :lol: and I was able to sit and relax and watch Pingu with (FutureRedcoat)Becca! It was like a big family gathering and the Skyline was our living room!

Actually, that sounds quite profound, doesn't it! :lol:

What a lovely way of putting it i agree, whether you meet someone from this website for the first time or have met them several times before we all get on so well infact Butlins memories is like one big family and thats why i love this website so much and the special friends i have made from here xxxx

I'll second that! I don't think there'd be too many other websites or forums that could say the same really.

I'm a member of a few other forums, and several facebook groups, but a lot of the time you just get stupid bickering and pointless insults, and often just spam posts that don't even make sense, so this forum seems to have something special about it that prevents that. I think it's that special Butlins magic that does it!

I know its a bit late, but I just want to say, had a lovely week and was nice to see all the forum members.

My highlights of the week were;
meeting forum members,
circus hilarious show,
rainbow the dog and our cuddly version
Swimming every other day and riding the flumes over and over,
redcoat party dances,
V for Variety show and our night in with a 3 hour long game of uno with the kids and a couple of bags of cheese doritos,

Lower points included; chalet being quite uncomfortanble in the sitting room due to the two bed chairs replacing a proper sofa, toilet hanging of the wall with all the toilet water flooding the floor (though this was fixed within a couple of hours of reporting it)

I wish i'd found this forum sooner!! we were at bulins skegness for that weekend and it looks like you all had a fantastic time!!

my other half was looking through the pictures on here and recalls seeing the folks in the yellow tshirts although where i was il never know!!

circus hilarious was brilliant that weekend and my 4 year old had her picture with danny and clive!! how chuffed was she!!!!

anyway hope there is another meet at skegness!!! and glad you all had an amazing time!! xx
