Default Sand Bay Pontins Review (2) - July 2014

    Another try...

This holiday camp has recently taken back over again by Pontins, and is now one of their best.

Although the Hie-De-Hi chalets are freshly painted and virtually immaculate on the outside, some of them do still need refurbishing inside, but they were more than adequate, especially for the price. The room included a small digital TV, kettle and a fan, as well as extra bedding. All the bedding, sheets and electricity are provided as standard at this park, with no extra charges.

Apart from a little building work going on, the entire place was very quiet and totally litter free. The camp has two nice entertainment venues, a lounge, reception area, café, games room, crazy golf course, swimming pool, jacuzzi and sauna – all free for use.

The Bluecoats were professional and worked extremely well with the guests. The dining room was open for about 3 hours per meal, with plenty of seating and minimal queuing for the self-service, although staff kindly brought food for anybody with mobility issues, and the tables were cleared very efficiently. I have to say that the food was some of the best we have ever had at any holiday camp, and in many ways surpassed what you get at premier dining at Butlins.

The entertainment was fine, with a small resident band and various cabaret acts in the evenings. There were also generous prizes for the many free competitions throughout the break.

Highlights included the extended opening hours of many of the facilities (pool/spa/games room 7.30am-5pm and crazy golf equipment available 24 hours!), the excellent staff (dining room, Bluecoats and lifeguards), and the lack of any queues whatsoever to get into entertainment venues or the dining room. Very civilized compared to a Butlins holiday – and no need for an expensive B-line pass either! There was also a nice quiet beach just across the road from the camp.

A very good value for money holiday, but this place has nothing whatsoever for kids as it is an adults only camp. Hopefully, with Brean Sands Pontins just down the coast, Pontins won’t try to convert this into a family resort, because it is nice to have the option a quiet break from the kids without having to pay for a Warners holiday!

All in all, a different but far better holiday than my recent Minehead or Skegness Butlins experience.
