i'd say the two most likely options is an expansion to Westlakes or a hotel, and they're trying to balance gambling on one of those against how much longer to keep the existing buildings which continue to make them good money for no investment. Perhaps they also haven't totally ruled out retaining the buildings and re purposing them for another grade of accommodation.

Do you have any idea why there is such an apparent need for them to go? They seem to be delivering pretty good bang for buck as they are. As far as I can work out, they have a total of 206 standard rooms, set up as 64 double rooms (rows F&G), 58 twin rooms (rows S&T), and 84 two room units with a double and twin room each (rows B&C, O&P). Potentially they can accomodate 580 people in that small space. That's the most densely packed accommodation on the camp by quite some way.

Based on their current pricing, if they book all of that out for a week (and usually in the summer it does look pretty full) the standard rooms will bring in 55,000 for one week in July. From just 4 buildings that don't take up much space and have almost zero investment beyond basic maintenance. And it's not even full peak season yet. In August that figure will shoot up. Would they really make more from new buildings there?

Whilst a minor refresh wouldn't go amiss (things like fitting double glazing...and showers) there doesn't really seem to be much of a business case to demolish and replace them when they seem to be good earners as they are and people seem quite happy to keep on booking them.

Hi Guys, I got back from Minehead in June and at that point you could still book standard for next year however, I was told that they will be demolished and will definitely be the next chalet's to go but they just don't know when because they still sell out on a regular basis.

I was also told that the hotel on that site will not go ahead, instead there will be self catering units presumably, an extension to west lakes. They still want a hotel on site but do not have know where to locate it at present so is in the longer term plan.

I have previously read on this site about the walkway between what is now Jumpin Jacks and Ludo's. Well I took my Mum back to Minehead for the first time in 20 years and what did she want to do??? Play bloody bingo, so had no choice but to take her which was in Jumpin Jacks and got the chance to see this second walkway which I can always remember. It has barley changed with the pedestrian bollards still in place, but it was great to see. I will try and get a pic when I go in December however, may have to wait until next June when I can take Mum back because I am sure she won't want to miss her holiday bingo!!!!

Finally the Funfair. The old pirate ship which was originally from Pwllheli is on its way to the scrap yard. It is going to be replaced however by a Ferris wheel, which should overlook the seafront. Funnily enough I had actually said to my Mrs a day earlier that a Ferris wheel would be a good idea.

I think that's all I could dig around and find out this time however, most of this information I have posted comes from members of staff. How reliable is the info is not known so we just have to see what happens. I will however, be on another fact finding mission in December so stay tuned!!!

I think timing will depend on a number of factors. At the top of the list is where they will put all the people who currently book standard. It's not as simple as just assuming they will all fit into silver rooms when at peak season they already run out of them and have to upgrade people. Upgrading is also not a hugely simple matter either as once you go beyond silver there aren't very many room only units to choose from, leading to situations like last July when my silver room turned out to be a 3 bedroom silver plus bungalow in Holnicote! I even volunteered to be downgraded to a standard room so that I wasn't stuck at the back of the camp but was told standard was full too.

At present they also still rely on the two story Ocean Point units to provide some of the silver rooms (and IMO it is unfair to sell them as the same grade of accomodation as Pacific Wharf when the latter are larger and have had a refurb which the former hasn't had). But long term (possibly not that long either) I can see Ocean Point turning into staff sheds when the remaining 1976 flatlets are condemned. About a third of Ocean Point already is staff. The future may well be less silver rooms which will make them even less able to accomodate the guests who currently book standard.

Looking at it from the other angle, I would say a West Lakes extension is the most likely, but that would also assume that an extension is needed. Unless they are regularly selling out and they believe there is sufficient demand to almost double it in size, what would be the point?

As I said before though, I don't understand why it's such a done deal that Surfers Point will be demolished. There doesn't seem to be any real case for it. It's completely different to the situation with Sunset Wharf.

You can also see into it from the back of Hotshots quite often (if you go to the toilets it's through the doors at the end of the corridor, those doors are quite often left open).
