    Default Clacton Butlins

I have just visited the site of Clacton Butlins for the first time since 1980. I knew that it was now a housing estate, but knowing it and actually seeing first-hand that it has completely gone are two different things. Very sad.

Also the ex-Clacton Butlins giant that was allegedly at Seawick, St Osyth has long gone - no staff there knew anything about it.

A camp that I used to love, last there in 1977 and also the year before that. Had a great time as a 14 and 15 year old - recall Peter McQueen being table tennis coach, must have thought I was stalking him as not only 2 years in a row at Clacton and he was also table tennis coach on my 1978 holiday to Filey.

Back to Clacton, I remember Radio 1 Roadshow appeared just outside the camp. Great memories and KAF I don't know if I would like to see the old camp being a housing estate, a bit like Barry Island and also Filey and Ayr being a caravan park, just sad to think of how they used to all be great holiday camps.
