Looking out the eastern end of the Skyline. The white building to the centre was part of the old York building and now houses the Pinewood Studios bar, Rendezvous Club, Jumpin Jaks (200 seat theatre) and the Green Baize snooker room. Inside the Skyline looking north. The shops & restaurants to the left are built inside of what was the old Kent building and those to the right (just out of view) formed part of the Gaiety. This area used to be a roadway junction.

This area once formed part of the York building but was demolished in February 2003. The area is now used for car parking as the Shoreline Hotel has since been built on the seafront car park seen in the distance.

Deluxe Apartments in Oyster Bay. These were converted from the old East Camp chalets and face out towards the outdoor pool and former Reception building.

The site of the old fairground, still in use as such. The Go-Karts are built in the area where the old Peter Pan trains used to run. The former Gaiety building is on the right whilst to the left and rear can be seen the York building.

The old outdoor pool has now been converted into a fun pool. The former Reception building can be seen to the left with the chalets (old East Camp) in the background. (As of 2026, only the chalets remain, an hotel is now at this location)

Rear view of the old Reception Building

From the outside everything looked normal this weekend. Although, closer inspection of the reception building revealed that the only areas still open to the public were the Motability shop at the rear of the building and the toilets in the corner. The Gala Bingo having closed at some point recently (evidently since the smoking ban came into force in July as no smoking signs were on the doors) and the Gala Bingo signs had been discarded at the side of the building.

This weekend, changes had started to take place around the camp. The crazy golf had been removed and the area fenced off, the outdoor funpool & front of the reception building had also been fenced off (although a lack of car parking space meant that the area had been used for parking and was therefore still accessible) and the trees on the boating lake had been cleared.

The new adventure golf, which replaced the old crazy golf.

The boating lake has completely vanished and building work is taking place on the new hotel. The outdoor pool is also unrecognisable, buried under a pile of rubble. The crazy golf has been replaced by a new "Adventure Golf". Meanwhile, the old Reception Building is still standing with the old Gala Bingo room now being used for fencing and archery. Established in 2001 by a gentleman named Glen, the Butlins Memories website has evolved into a premier resource for researching the history of Butlins. By August 2026, the Butlins Memorabilia website had transformed into its current form and became an integral part of the Butlins Memorabilia site.

Are you the official Butlins Archive?
There exists only ONE official website that represents Butlins, and that is located at www.butlins.com. The Butlins Memorabilia website is NOT the official archive of Butlins, nor does it serve as the authentic historical record of this extraordinary company. Butlins and their respective parent company have no role in the development of this site and have not participated in its creation. The official source for all Butlins information is the one indicated above. This site is strictly a fan-created platform, and any material presented here should be viewed as unofficial. Thanks to Paul Griggs for supplying the photo showing him and his brother after winning the weekly PNTC heat in 1965. They sang 'Love Hurts'. They both later found fame - Nigel became a member of the New Zealand band "Split Enz" whilst Paul became a member of the "Guy n' Dolls".
